03 - Dark is the Night
This time it's about money. Well, some of it is about money. How is a Damned going to pay for her condo and keep up with the Joneses? Still in New York, Katie is working on creating an additional base for herself and her team as Pandora contemplates how she can mess up Calvin's love life. What will happen when Katie meets the woman who means the most to her?And what is Calvin going to do, since the gang in Mexico is not giving up?Dark is the night when the heroes come out to play.
03/1 Moloch's Plans Moloch, in his office in Hell (snacking on live caramel turtles), is reviewing his failed plans concerning Earth, T’Chezz’s death, and the interference of Lilith (Katie’s Pandora) and Katie. He planned to broaden his activities to other countries in the world. The US would have to be won by stealth, since any show of strength would be met with a show of even greater strength by the Americans. He was using embedded ,tortured souls as stickpins on is map., enjoying their screams. He enjoyed the vidsion of taking down Katie and Pandora (Lilith). There was no way that Lilith could show up at all of the battles. He would stretch her ability and wear her into the ground with unrelenting attacks spread over huge portions of the Earth. “There are always the Leviathans.”
Katie and Angie are reviewing the newscast from the attack on the President in Times Square, the day before, Pandora complaining that Katie was too p[icky about the men who had wanted to be with her. A camera had gotten a clear shot of her face, and Katie was going to have to call her mon and tell her that yes, she was really alive. Katie will visit her in person, in Las Vegas. Angie will get them settled in the new condo while she’s gone.
George, and IRS agent. Had been sent out to bring Katie a letter, in person, something about tax evasion. He arrived at the Base, and was escorted onto the premises.
03/2 A New Hero Coming Brock, in the military Damned battalion, was in the middle of a demon fight, and his group was winning. His own demon (no one knew he was infected), kept him healed and go9ing. As they were waiting for grenade smoke to, so they could continue, A couple of his men suffered from grenade smoke damage when their masks were torn off, but nothing serious, and they would survive. Another group added their fire to Brock’s, demolishing the demons.
Katie, on a trip to the real estate office to meet Iris, discusses with Pandora men’s reactions to her. Katie to sign papers, take possession. Robert Forester, their attorney, will handle the closing. Papers signed, including access to two parking , spaces, Katie and Pandora go out for Italian before they take off for ‘Vegas.
03/3 A New Problem George Overhill, the IRS agent, meets with Timothy, one of only ones on base. Overhill announces that he had served Katie’s rep, and that she was being audited. Timothy resents her being given problems with the IRS, and devises a plan to keep them from screwing her.
Katie leaves Angie in hotel room, with All instructions re the condo, takes off for airport. Driven by the General, so that he could talk to her. Wants her back in 36 hours, as demons still active, and they need her. When boarded, calls Calvin, still on vacation in San Diego, with Sofia, and has to listen to Pandora’s diatribe on what she will do to Calvin when he comes home. Invisible penis, too small., etc.
Calvin, out for breakfast with Sofia, hears three henchmen about to come after her, so tells her to hide in the closet while he takes care of it. He does, (sleeper hold, calls police for pick-up), and decides to take care of the problem at its source.
03/4 Calvin and Sofia in restaurant, both ruminating on how good life was for them at this time. Calvin, that he had suffered both from Demon prejudices, and from having a black skin, and Sofia from all of the problems she had just escaped from. Sofia decides to walk down to the beach while Calvin pays the bill. Accosted by three drunks, who run off at the sight of Calvin coming.
Brock and his troops are successful. Brock finishes off a final demon by hand, and his men cheer. Two men suffered smoke grenade damage, will be OK, all go back to barracks. Called to Commander’s office, told,” “Orders for a special operation were just handed down to me; orders regarding an international effort with European forces. Boys, you’re going to go show France how we do things over here. Our old buddy Moloch has invaded France, and the United States is sending a large contingent over there to help out.” Back at the barracks, Brock packs and said,” “Come on, guys, we gotta get stoked about this. Not only are we going overseas, but we also get to kick some serious demon ass. And don’t forget the women.” But Brock thought,Survival would be the game of the day, and he was determined to survive whatever the bastard threw at him.
03/5 Timothy Takes Over Timothy , in his office reflects on his life. He had found the career he’d always wanted. He just happened to have a demon tagging along for the ride. Started reviewing the tax papers. Timothy had figured she was rich, but he didn’t know she was that damn rich. And even though she was dead, they wanted her taxes paid. He finally found the date Katie’s death certificate had been withdrawn, and that she would have to pay taxes on little of what she really had, but they wanted huge sums, despite the dates. The number that they were projecting put her in the market for some serious prison time, as well as possible charges of attempting to defraud the government. She was the leader of the most important mercenary group in history, and somebody was out to get her. All that remained to be seen was whether Timothy could get them first.
Katie goes to the Base first, before visiting her Mom, checks in with Timothy. He does not tell her about IRS, tells his demon, ”That is the entire reason she has a support staff—to take care of the all the bullshit and only pass it to her if it’s necessary. This has not yet become necessary.
Pandora tries to prepare Katie for the worst kind of visit. I just want you to be realistic when you go in there, that’s all. I want you to be prepared that she may not accept Katie 2.0. I just want you to be realistic when you go in there, that’s all. I want you to be prepared that she may not accept Katie 2.0.
Calvin visiting with Sofia in sSan Diego, hears noises on the porch, find three thugs who were trying to kidnap sofia, to take her back to Mexico. He thwarts them, calling the police to pick them up, but
decides that he must stop this kind of threat at at the source, and decides to go to Mexico to take care of the problem.
03/6 Katie and her Mom Katie comes home, and she and Mom meet again. Have tea and cake, and Katie tells her story. Mom accepts her as who she has become, and Katie shows her her new wings.
Angie meets with the interior designer, and listens to her mesmerizing requests for speeded delivery. They work!.
Timothy, following George’s presence, looks for leads as to who his boss might be. A demon, high in government, who is out to cause Katie trouble. An find no clue in George’s life.
03/7 More of Katie's visit with her Mom, tells her all. Cannot spend time with her, as would open her to danger. Gabriel visits Mom, and mind-wipes the memories of Katie’s visit, leaving her with a sense that Katie is Ok wherever she is.
Joshua sees her off the next morning, loading her with Ammo, and with new “toys” to hold her over while she was in New York.
Timothy decides to hack the IRS to get information. Stocks up on Doritos and Mountain Dew, for his session. Not successful yet.
In her condo in New York, Angie has moved mountains to get the place about 75% furnished since Katie had been gone, including hiring Models to Move You, handsome men, to move in more things. Katie starts to make a move on one of them, but he’s gay, so all she can do is sit and laugh at Pandora, who had been having expectations of a good time. Katie stats to look at the toys Joshua had sent her.
03/8 Katie's New Business Katie looked at all of the new things, put them away, and sits with Angie, planning how to make untraceable money in New York. I need a revenue stream that is both profitable and off the books to filter into them.”” So side jobs, basically.” Angie giggled while Pandora went on and on about the reasons sex work was both a moral and ethical vocation. But that life just wasn’t for her. I think the best route for me at this point is protection projects. She was about to enter a world of even more fighting, but even larger payouts. She first tried Little Italy. No luck. She went to the Greeks, the Italians, and the Koreans, but nobody would let her get anywhere close to them. They were heavily guarded, and none of them liked the idea of working with a demon of any kind—especially not one they had seen on the news lately. Then she thought of policemen, who were always making extra money for cash. Met with Schultz, who wrote down a name and an address and handed it to her. “That’s Mason Waters. He’s the boss at a relatively legit company. They hire heavies out for all kinds of jobs. You have to be willing to go on jobs that may not exactly be legal, but if you’re good, then they will send you out as much as you ask.” Katie went to Mason Waters, at a gym, passed his three tests (weight-lifting, hand-to-hand combat2, 4, pistols), and was hire
03/9 Katie’s first job for Waters. “A little girl has been kidnapped and held for ransom. Your job is to exchange the money for the kid and get her back to her parents. She’s eleven. She’s the daughter of Romero Bonatide, a very affluent…businessman.” “We don’t really know who the other guys are. Mr. Bonatide probably has an idea, but it’s not my job to question him, nor is it yours. When you get to the destination, you say as little as possible. You show them the funds and wait to see the child before handing the money over. The exchange must go smoothly, and no matter what you get the girl. Good luck out there. Call me when you are finished and have been paid. The parents will have the cash for the job when you meet them.” Katie got out of the car when it pulled up outside an old cement factory on the outskirts of the city. She walked over to where half a dozen armed men waited around their parked cars for her. Another man appeared from behind them, dragging the little girl by the arm. She looked younger than eleven, and she’d been blindfolded and her hands were bound behind her back. Katie showed them the money, and told them they could have it after she had the girl. “I don’t think so. There has been a change of plan. You can tell your boss we’ve decided that we enjoy the pain of his family too much to just hand her over. Actually, you won’t get the chance to tell him, but that’s okay. We can pin a note to your body before we deliver it to him. It was pretty stupid of you to come alone.” Katie shoots five of them, knifes the sixth, and brings the girl out safely. Package will be delivered. When Katie delivered the girl to her parents, she noticed that the father was infected, so she pulled the demon from him, and left.
03/10 Katie and Calvin Decide Timothy gets a lead from another agent, hacks into his system, finds out that they know EVERYTHING about Katie, but not who’s doing it. Will tell General Brushwood what’s going on.
Katie gets up, breakfasts on Krispy Kreme, gats a call from Calvin re Sofia. Guys from the cartel were sneaking around, trying to kidnap Sofias, and Calvin thinks it won’t quit until the cartel is stopped. Katie want Cal to come to NY, work out a plan with her, as she thinks that demons have invaded the gangster worlds. Mob and cartel bosses in other parts of the world would be a likely place for the US demons to have migrated. Calvin will meet with Katie, Sofia will be safe on the Base with Timothy, and the Cartel will soon be gone.
03/11 Katie's Second Job Katie gets a call from the NYPD, Travers and Schultz. “We have another club situation that could benefit from your touch. We have a bunch of rich guys whose demons have taken over. They’re wreaking havoc.” They will pick her up. Wore knives and small pistols. They get to the Club, Katie goes in, senses demons somewhere in the building, but not on the dancefloor. Katie made her way to the VIP room at the back, where she entered a room where ten men with glowing red eyes were sitting on low couches surrounding a podium in the center of the room, where a pair of dancers did impossible things on a pole. The men were surrounded by yet more women, all dressed to kill, all giggling and hanging breathlessly on their every word. Katie invited two of them near her, and pulled out their demons, sending them to Hell. The other eight sat and stared, nervously. Two more near the door, then two more, one more, three to go. Two more demons extracted, one man escaped out the door. Police will get him. The cops stopped him, and Katie extracted his demon before turning him over.
03/12 Sofia gets to the Base, Timothy makes her feel at home, with the promise of manicures and pedicures.
Calvin arrives in NY, will have to wait until Katie can get a couple of days free. Katie calls Timothy, tells him “I need you to get with Sofia and start gathering intel. Use the satellites to get images of the property, find out how many guards are there at any given time, and anything else you think we might need to know before we storm the place. I don’t want to be caught in any traps, so I want to be prepared. I’m going to text you my assistant Angie’s number. You can work with her on gathering the information for me.” The information comes. “These are hour-by-hour images from the compound. There is also a list of all of the guard rotations, so you don’t have to go through and count it out yourself. The list also contains the names of the property’s residents. This is your target’s itinerary, and this is a floor plan based on Sofia’s description. She’s only been inside the compound once, but she described it to the best of her knowledge. “ Calvin and Katie use their own Jet. Katie scares people too much on commercial jets, so doesn’t use them. Looking for peace of mind when this is done.
03/13 Talk on the plane about inconsequential things as Pandora thinks plane is bugged.
Angie’s ex-boyfriend comes to the door, wants to talk to her, get back together. Angie calls Security, but opens door on chain and talks to him, with a gun in her hand. Security arrives, hears him insult her, knocks him out. Angie proud of herself. Had stood up to him.
Sofia and Timothy talk about Calvin and Katie. Sofia feels better about it all.
03/14 Brock's Warriors Fight Again Brock’s team lands in France, is welcomed, escorted to their barracks. They talk about what they had heard. “I heard there are three disturbances being tracked for possible gate openings,” one of the guys imparted. “A guy I know in intel told me all of them are showing that the gates are going to be massive if they open. We are talking Incursion Day and bigger. Massive.” “There are over four thousand Damned soldiers en route to deal with it as we speak. On top of that, we are going to be supported with tanks, large artillery, and attack helos. They’ll keep it clear around us while we’re fighting. Dudes, we’re preparing for one of the biggest offensives so far.” “All that means is more American and French bodies to sift through for remains. We’re just cannon fodder to them. They don’t care how many of us die protecting their freedom.” They go to the Commander’s tent in Fort Paris, which the commander calls Fort Fuck-You, since that was what they were going to do to the demons. They knew that officers in war were often strange, but this guy took the cake. The legs of his fatigues were rolled up, and he was walking around barefoot. He had a bushy mustache and kept a pipe clenched between his teeth, although it wasn’t lit. . US troops are the only ones at the moment with the correct ammunition for demon killing, which means we are the front line of defense until the situation is rectified.” He scratched his bushy mustache. “Here’s the rub. While we have multiple auxiliary support units available to us, they are not Damned soldiers. We are doing the best we can to get everyone the correct loadout so they can participate. Until then the fate of France rests with the Damned, which is fine because we are Americans, dammit! We take the front line with smiles on our faces and joy in our hearts.” He nodded at them, satisfied they understood the stakes. Brock’s team was the main strike force. All Brock could hope was that they got out of there alive.
Timothy and General Brushwood talk about the IRS audit, Timothy telling Brushwood the whole truth, and they both are determined to find out who want to take her down.
Moloch and Baal talk about the Earth situation (while snacking on deep-fried hamsters. “The ‘international attack business’ is getting complicated. The diversion gates are going up outside Paris. They should keep the military busy for a while. The secondary effort will get underway as soon as they’re wrapped up in Paris, since they won’t have the resources or the time to get over there and stop it.”
“I was actually hoping that I could talk you into being my eyes down there. I need someone I can trust to direct the efforts, someone capable of the magic needed to win this fight. I want Paris. In fact, I want all of France. The United States will not just stand by and let their troops be demolished. They will come running to help, and the US will be left relatively light on mercs or military. This will give us an opening. You shouldn’t have to do any kind of fighting. Just monitor things and report them back to me.” Baal Oks the project.
Katie and Calvin were on their way to Mexico, and would be in no position to help in Paris. By the time they would get there, Moloch would be in control, and could crush them.
03/15 On the flight to Mexico, Calvin told Katie how business was done there. The authorities are hand-in-hand with the cartels. Think of it as a part of the economic model. The politicians and cops take the bribes, and the drug lords keep the damage caused by their business to a minimum.” Calvin will take responsibility as much as he can for their safety.
Met at airport by Federales, who know who she is – a WOMD – a Weapon of Mass Destruction. The Federales will help if possible, but the Drug Lords will be prepared, so don’t think it will be easy. Need to get it done, as Mexico has no donut shops, and Pandora will have to go without until they get out. Headed for Puerto Los Cabos, which is close to San Jose del Cabo, where our target is, a resort town on the water.” Got lost, had to backtrack, finally got to the town. Needed to disappear until after dark.
03/16 Brock and company arrive at potential battlefield, place where three portal will be opened. French have no special ammo, so Damned Team will be at the front. Portals open, two fifteen foot demons appear, and others. Brock’s team help defeat this group, portals close as demons retreat. Then comes the news that Notre Dame has been lost, and that they will have to fight to regain that field. Brock said, ““Time to teach these bastards some international manners.”
03/17 Katie and Calvin in Mexico Katie and Calvin check into a somewhat dilapidated motel (less chance of finding them there, change into fighting gear, talk to Timothy, who gudes them through streets and pathways, exactly, so they won’t set off alatrms. Problem is that Mateo is home with wife and three children, seven guards, so won’t be a hit and run. Will kill Mateo if not infected, remove demon if he is. Find him in his “man cave”, has been infected for over twelve years, so just pull and kill his demon. He will not remember, and they will be gone.
03/18 The Call to France Timothy working more on hacking IRS files, finding out who has it in for Katie. Found that, using the initials HL fond on the files, he narrowed it down to Laurel Hoffling, a person who must be infected, as she had no known contact or relationship to Katie. Might not even be the persons true name. Couldn’t tell.
Brushwood calls Katie and Calvin to France, to help re-take Notre Dame Cathedral and surrounding area. Higher rate for services. Will be transported to France in Army plane. Pandora’s price – twelve dozen donuts, no potato ones.
03/19 They take off, with a third plane for Pandora’s donuts, the most important cargo. FAST !! Refueling in mid air.
Pandora spent the trip relating her memories of Paris. Were walking into a mess. Bodies, demons eating them, more pouring out of the cathedral, people screaming, the police not able to control them. Brock’s group of Damned were waiting to rappell in, and Katie and Calvin and others were going in o0n the ground. Brock was like a crazy man. All he could see was red, and all he could do was shoot to kill. All that he could feel was rage. Brock made his way inside, finding demons everywhere, desecrating the place. Brock shot a small flamethrower at the demons, the fuel laced with the special metal. Brock had gotten as taste for taking demon blood, and now they were going to pay in that coin.
03/20 The Fight at Notre Dame Angie turned on her TV in New York, and watched the news flash about the demons at Notre Dame, in Paris, with live shots of the blood and mayhem. Angie hadn’t realized that this was what Katie did, fighting these demons. Brock and his men have a slight respite, and suddenly hear a low, malevolent laugh come from under them, from the catacombs. They all load up, and wait for what will show up. Then the demon came up, each footstep shaking the entire building. Brock’s men knew that wouldn’t survive, and that they would go down fighting.
03/21 All of the world was watching, mostly from aerial shots, as the ground was too dangerous. The shots showed the large demon coming out of the front doors of the church, picking up a car and throwing it aside. This one was smarter and faster than the others and had complete control of what he was doing. It was reported that ll bridges were blocked, to keep the demons from getting into the city, so no escape. If you lived there, try to hide. Helicopters came, firing at the demon, causing it great pain, but not slowing it down. Then a fighter plane came, and a lone figure was ejected, coming down on the back of the demon. It was Katie. Brock’s men are on the ground, planning to attack his knees, to make him fall so that they can get to its head. They see Katie fall to his back, and they come out shooting.
03/22 Baal. Waiting on the sidelines, saw KatieDora come and attack the large demon. Baal calls on two evil slithery demons to attack Lilith, and destroy her. He made them invisible, so that Katie would not know they were coming. Katie had just managed to kill the huge demon with a sword to the head. Angie was just wishing that all of the reporters stayed alive, so that she could watch all of the battle.
03/23 Katie walked over to the demon, on the ground now, pulled her sword from its head, and shot it in the brain with Harry, her super-big pistol. It killed it, And it turned to dust as everyone watched. Both Calvin and Katie laughed at what Pandora had thought about her wings. The fight wasn’t over yet, thpough, as there were hundreds of demons inside, and probably more waiting to come out of the portals below the cathedral. Brocl got his men together, so they could assist further. They all entered the Cathedral, all fighting. Inside Calvin. Marty needed energy, as he had been keeping Calvin going, and complained about not stopping for tacos. Calvin demands extra time on his vacation schedule, because it had been interrupted by the fight.
03/24 Katie's Date While coming closer to the portal, Pandora tells Katie to stop, as she has sensed the invisible demons, snakelike, fanged and poisoned. One of the invisible demons attacks one of Brock’s men, in the rear, and kills him. Calvin goes back, and demands that the demon attack him, someone stronger and as tough as it was. It does try, and Calvin cuts its head off. Katie had found the other snake/demon, and was killing it slowly. Pandora took over, and finished the job. Katie looked at Brock’s men, and knew she was fighting with warriors. They finished off the demons, and sensed that the portals were closed. They all came to the surface, to accolades and congratulations. Brock raised the courage to ask her out, when they got back, and she gave him her card. Give her a call, and they’d work something out.
Brock’s demon was quiet – in fear of Pandora, and the ability to rip her out, or ?? Katie gave an interview, admitting that Pandora had changed her viewpoint about the human race, and that yes, she did have angel qualities about which she refused to speak. And so the went to the ‘copter and chowed down on some donuts.
03/25 Katie demanded that the French pay her before she left. She was a mercenary, and that wasn’t a government job. So they agreed, and she and Calvin started home. On the plane, she got a message from Brock, that he would have a 72 hour leave in two weeks, and could make it to New York then. She answered, My plane seats twelve. Bring some friends, and we will show you that we mercenaries appreciate you soldiers.
Calvin intends to take Sophia back, so Timothy will again be without a friend.
Timothy again meets with George Overhill, reams him a new hole, and hands him a bill for all f the work he had done following up on George’s case. George leaves the Base.
Angie answers the door at the condo, to find Gabriel there. He asks her to give Pandora a message – “ Please tell Pandora that perhaps she should tell Katie about the sword skills and the armor.” Angie will not forget, and closes the door, forgetting to tell Gabriel that Katie had a question of him. He was nowhere to be seen, but a warm glow came to her, and she was content.
